The power of language continues to fascinate me…
When a waiter/waitress asks “can I grab you another beer?” I usually say yes. If that same person were to ask “are you right for drinks?”, I’ll more than likely say no.
A question asked with positive language makes me want to say yes. For some reason I feel like I SHOULD have another. It’s silly, but true.
Negative language has the opposite affect. Tonight when asked “are you right for drinks?” I almost felt like I SHOULDN’T have another. Would it be too much trouble to bother this person for one more beer? (One that I will happily hand over my hard earned money for). It sounded a bit like it…
Words influence decisions.
